I’m back at the Lab Gym and one week into a new phase of Justin Thacker’s world class weight training program with my own “world famous” trainer, Shawn Dunn. After 5 straight days of hitting the weights…surprise! My 6.30am workout today was an unexpected departure from our new routine. It was so much fun to try so many new things!
This video is for the endless stream of people who constantly say the following things to me:
1. Going to the gym is so boring! (this was my first time trying everything you see here except pushing the prowler and the farmer’s carry with the heavy dumb bells)
2. What’s so special about the Lab Gym in St. Louis? (video speaks for itself)
3. How & why can you possibly do strength training every day? (This is the perfect way to mix it up on your “day off”!)
4. You are crazy if you think working out is fun! (Notice I’m smiling a lot in the video)
This entire “upstairs” level of the Lab is new since my last visit, so this was my first time training in this magnificent playground full of unusual toys. Until now, I’d only seen it in the movies. Heat rises and seemingly by design there is no ventilation, so it’s lovingly referred to as the sauna, the sweat box, hotbox, and since it is hotter than hell in there….I’ll go with The Devil’s Playground! It also happens to be over 100 degrees/ 40 C today!
This workout was so much fun and I was feeling pretty good about doing these circuits, until after several rounds, Shawn took me over to the rope dangling from the ceiling. I stood at the bottom, imaging imminent rope burns, saying I couldn’t do it; I even said it out loud. Rope climbing was something I have never in my life been able to do, not even as a child, but today I did it!!
Sweaty, filthy,invincible! What a fantastic way to start your day!!
